Greensward Committee

Greensward Committee

Established in the Spring of 2016, the Greensward Committee aims to further the involvement of the GCA in Amherst town projects that impact greenspace in direct ways.

Mission Statement

The Garden Club of Amherst has a 100-year history of advocating for the beautification of the town. Now as town officials consider major municipal development with an expanded library, a new elementary school and new buildings for the Department of Public Works and the Fire Department, the Garden Club is concerned about the potential loss of green space in the downtown. In addition to municipal projects, several large-scale commercial developments are proposed. The ad hoc Greensward Committee of the Garden Club of Amherst wishes to have a voice to advocate for the preservation and creation of green space connected to these projects. We are prepared to work with town officials, the Chamber of Commerce, the Business Improvement District and private developers to assure that landscaping and green space are included in these projects.
